Which room: living room, basement, backyard or condo party room
Each room has a season and a trade-off.
- Living room. Fastest to set up. The speaker sits beside your TV, the party light goes on a side table, and the singers stand where the coffee table used to be.
- Basement or rec room. The Ottawa default from November until the snow melts, and the easiest way to keep a Barrhaven or Alta Vista birthday from bothering anyone upstairs.
- Backyard or covered patio. A Canada Day birthday in Orléans under a covered patio is a great use of the long weekend. You need a roof over the equipment, an outlet within reach and dry weather.
- Condo party room. Common in Centretown, Westboro and along the river in Gatineau. It is a shared space with its own rules, and it usually calls for an Event package. More on that below.

Home Superstar for the house, Event Basic for the party room
Home Superstar is the private-residence package: up to 20 guests, a speaker, two microphones, a basic party light and the 67,000+ song library, plugged into your own TV. It is on the home pricing page, and it handles a living room, basement, backyard or cottage birthday. An extra day is $99, which turns a Saturday party into a whole-weekend rental with pickup after Sunday.
A condo party room is shared property, not a private residence, so it takes Event Basic (with its own 22-inch screen, since party rooms rarely have a TV you can use) or Event Superstar with wireless microphones and an 80-inch projector for a bigger crowd. Practical condo advice for any Ottawa building: reserve the room with the property manager, ask whether the freight elevator has to be booked for deliveries, find out the room's closing hour, and put the elevator booking time, the concierge desk and your unit number in the booking notes.
TV, outlets and Wi-Fi
Home Superstar connects to your TV with the cables and adapters the driver brings. Have one or two outlets free near the TV. The song system needs internet: home Wi-Fi is fine, and a phone hotspot covers a backyard, a party room where the building Wi-Fi asks for a login, or a cottage. Between songs, any phone can play a playlist through the speaker.
Noise, neighbours and how long to sing
Ottawa houses sit close together in the older neighbourhoods and the walls are shared in a Vanier or Gloucester townhouse, so a little planning goes a long way. Tell the neighbours, or hand them a microphone. Keep the basement windows shut and the speaker pointed away from the party wall. Start singing after the cake rather than before dinner, and switch to a playlist at a reasonable hour. Since pickup is arranged for the next day, nothing has to be dismantled that night; unplug nothing and go to bed.
Kids, adults and a bilingual family
Kids need short turns and group songs; two microphones and an open queue keep the line moving, and the party light makes a rec room feel like a show for a tenth birthday in Stittsville or a sweet sixteen in Kanata. Adult birthdays warm up slowly and then refuse to end. The mixed birthday, with cousins arriving from Gatineau and grandparents who grew up on French radio, is where the library earns its keep: it is mostly English and French, deep in both, with Spanish, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Hebrew, Russian and more on top, so the queue can swing between languages every song.
What happens on the day
Choose the morning (10 am to 1 pm) or afternoon (1 pm to 5 pm) window at checkout; the driver confirms the exact time the week of the party. On arrival the driver carries everything in, connects the speaker and microphones to your TV, tests the sound with you and shows you how the queue works on a phone. Then the party is yours. Phone support runs for the whole rental, and if something cannot be fixed remotely, a replacement is sent. Pickup is at the arranged time, usually the next day.
