Karaoke at Your Wedding Reception in Ottawa: A Couple's Guide

Published September 25, 2026

Ottawa weddings are bilingual more often than not, and that is the strongest argument for karaoke at the reception. A song list that runs deep in French and English gives the Franco-Ontarian side, the anglophone side and the cousins from Gatineau the same microphone on the same night. Karaoke Rental Ottawa delivers the machine to your hall on either side of the river, sets it up, tests it and returns for pickup the next day, and there is no host, so the queue belongs to the guests. This guide covers when couples use it, the hall logistics that matter in the capital, delivery windows, the Event Superstar package, how the queue works without a DJ, and the quotes venues expect.

When couples bring it in

  • After dinner. Speeches, first dance, then the queue opens with a song both families know. It fills a dance floor faster than asking people to dance.
  • Late night. After the playlist or the band, the last hour goes to karaoke, when the people still standing are the ones who will sing a duet with the groom's uncle.
  • The rehearsal dinner. A restaurant private room in Westboro or the Glebe, twenty people who half know each other, and a shared queue. Event Basic fits this room.
  • The shower, the stag and doe, the day-after brunch. A community hall in Rockland, a rec room in Barrhaven, a chalet in Chelsea. Home Superstar suits the private-home versions; the halls take an Event package.

Hall logistics in the capital region

Ottawa receptions happen in community halls in Kanata, Rockland and Arnprior, church halls in Russell and Embrun, hotel ballrooms in Gloucester, arena halls in Kemptville, rented halls along the river in Manotick, and reception rooms on the Gatineau side. The needs are the same everywhere: one or two outlets, Wi-Fi that does not open a login page (ask the hall for guest Wi-Fi, or bring a phone hotspot), and a wall or a stand for the projector. Book the hall first. Then put in the booking notes who will open the door, the room name, the loading dock or stairs, and the parking situation. For an outdoor reception under a tent or a covered patio, the equipment needs a roof, an outlet within reach and dry weather; it cannot be left in the rain.

Delivery windows and pickup the next day

Pick a morning (10 am to 1 pm) or afternoon (1 pm to 5 pm) window at checkout. The morning window gives the coordinator a tested, ready setup before the florist arrives; the afternoon window works when the hall is not open until then. The driver confirms the exact time the week of the wedding, connects the speaker, microphones, screen and projector, runs a sound test and shows one person how the queue works. Pickup happens at the arranged time, usually the next day. If the hall must be emptied by a certain hour the next morning, write that in the notes and the pickup is arranged around it. For a Sunday brunch with the machine still on, an extra day on an Event package is $199.

Event Superstar for a reception

Compare the two Event packages on the event pricing page; for a reception hall, Event Superstar is usually the one. It includes two wireless microphones (the maid of honour sings from her table, the kids from the floor), deluxe party lights that turn a community hall into a room once the lights go down, a 22-inch screen for the singers and an 80-inch projector so the whole hall can follow the lyrics and sing the chorus. Event Basic, with a 22-inch screen and two microphones, is the right size for the rehearsal dinner or a small shower. Both are rated for up to 40 singers, which is how to think about a reception of 150: forty people will sing, the rest will cheer. Add-ons cover an extra speaker for a long hall and extra wireless microphones for group numbers.

The queue without a DJ, bilingual crowds, and paperwork for venues

Guests search the 67,000+ song library from their own phones and add themselves to the queue; the couple or the coordinator seeds it with the first two songs. Nobody has to run it. Between songs, a phone plays the reception playlist through the speaker so the room never goes quiet. If you have a DJ, the machine waits until their set is over; the two do not compete, and the queue does not need an operator. The library is mostly English and French, with Spanish, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Hebrew, Russian and more, which is why an Ottawa reception can move from a Québécois classic to an English anthem to a grandmother's Italian favourite without anyone touching the machine.

Halls, planners and hotels often want a formal quote in writing before they confirm a vendor. Request one from the event quote page, approve it by email and pay by invoice through a secure link; a PO number can be added and quote bookings need no deposit. Couples paying by card use the booking page, up to six months ahead. Delivery fees start at $29 and depend on driving time, and the delivery areas page lists every community from Arnprior to Rockland and across to Hull, Aylmer and Chelsea; a reception farther out needs a delivery quote. Phone support covers the whole rental and a replacement is sent if a fault cannot be fixed remotely. After that, the only thing left to plan is who sings first.
